Canvas

Canvas is a learning management system (LMS) used by professors to help manage their course & facilitate asynchronous learning opportunities such as quizzes and class polls. It does not offer time saving grading tools such as peer assessment.



Kritik

Kritik's peer assessment platform boosts student engagement while improving their critical thinking skills. With peer assessment and online discussion boards powered by an AI-driven platform, Kritik is able to enhance student learning.



Unlike Canvas, Kritik's advanced peer assessment platform enhances student learning by enabling the development of critical thinking skills and boosting student engagement.

Kritik's platform enables educators to reduce the amount of time they allocate to grading through the use of peer assessment. Canvas' platform does not utilize peer assessment as an evaluation method; grading is still left to be completed by the educators themselves or via the TAs. Peer assessment ensures students receive the level of personalized feedback they require in order to be successful without added work on the part of educators.

Kritik also supports group evaluations, so group-based projects can be assessed using peer assessment.

Grade Calibration‍

Kritik allows educators to grade a select amount of assignments to establish a baseline, then student assessments are weighted based on their accuracy to the baseline. Coupled with anonymous assessment, student assignments are assessed & graded fairly without bias or favortism.

Weighted Peer Grading‍

Kritik uses data to determine who is a good grader. "TA-level" graders will have a higher weight placed on their evaluations, thereby increasing the accuracy of the final scores.

AI-Driven‍

Our algorithm uses AI to flag the graders who may have not been accurate in their review and brings them to your attention. Also, we use data to create groups of evaluators that change activity to activity so that the evaluators across all assignments are homogeneous in their grading ability. By doing this, we ensure that strong and weak graders are evenly distributed among assignments.

With Kritik, students receive feedback on the assignments they submit, and are also instructed to provide feedback on the quality of the evaluation given to them by their evaluators; we call this, Feedback on Feedback.

Without Feedback on Feedback, the quality of a students overall evaluation on an assessment is diminished. By knowing that they are being assessed on the accuracy and quality of their review, students are motivated to produce high-quality assessments of their peers.
