Case Study: Peer Assessment in Creative Courses

Studies have shown that creative skills, including the ability to imagine, explore, and synthesize, are key to success (Sternberg, 1999). Facilitating student development in creative skills will set them up with key competencies as they enter the workforce.



In this case study, we explore the journeys of three instructors who introduced the use of peer assessment with Kritik in their reflective assignments to result in a more engaged learning experience:

  • Prof. Michael Jones from Sheridan College saw students rediscover the values of creativity through critique and active engagement.
  • Prof. Karen Sunabacka from the University of Waterloo saw students develop a deeper understanding of the course theory by critically examining the work of their peers.
  • Prof. Jonathan Kyle Ezell from Ohio State University saw students develop “out of the box” thinking to refine their assignments as they received multiple points of feedback.
